Pillar Rocks is one of Kodaikanal's most awe-inspiring natural formations. Three massive vertical granite boulders, each rising approximately 400 feet (122 metres) above a deep, mist-filled gorge, stand as silent sentinels overlooking the Vaigai Dam plains far below. Located on the western edge of the Kodaikanal plateau, this geological marvel attracts nature enthusiasts, photographers, and families alike.

The Three Pillars
The formation consists of three distinct rocky pillars, arranged in a roughly north-south orientation. During early mornings, the gorge between them fills with thick, white mist, creating an ethereal scene where the pillars appear to float above the clouds. This phenomenon is most common between October and February, and during monsoon months (July–September).
The Mini Garden
Adjacent to the main viewpoint, a beautifully maintained garden offers a peaceful resting area with flowering shrubs, manicured hedges, and benches. It's a lovely spot for families with children, and the lawns are perfect for a leisurely picnic with a view.

- Golden Hour: Arrive before 7:00 AM for the best mist and soft light conditions
- Monsoon Drama: Visit during July–August for dramatic cloud formations swirling around the pillars
- Wide Angle: A wide-angle lens (16–35mm) is ideal to capture all three pillars and the gorge
- Safety: Stay behind the railings — the cliffs are steep and the rocks can be slippery when wet
