How to Get a Permit
Permits are issued by the District Forest Office in Kodaikanal town. Only a limited number of vehicles are allowed entry each day (typically around 20 vehicles), making advance planning essential. The permit costs approximately ₹300 per vehicle and ₹50 per person.

The Journey
The drive from Kodaikanal town to Berijam Lake is an experience in itself. The 21 km forest road passes through some of the densest shola-grassland ecosystems in the Western Ghats. Along the way, you'll encounter viewpoints, a solar observatory, and the haunting beauty of mist-wrapped valleys. The road is well-maintained but winding — allow 45 minutes to an hour each way.
Wildlife & Flora
The Berijam forest is home to a remarkable diversity of species. Keep your eyes open for Indian gaur (bison), sambar deer, Nilgiri langurs, and a variety of bird species including the endemic Nilgiri Flycatcher and Nilgiri Pipit.
